WILDLIFE CRISIS APPEAL

Catastrophic bushfires and ongoing drought have ravaged our beloved country

The impact on families, their homes, our forests and wildlife has been devastating and heartbreaking, with no imminent reprieve in sight.  Our hearts go out to the communities that have been affected.

These fires, combined with the ongoing long-term drought, have decimated already fragile animal populations.  The number of animals believed to have perished as a result of these catastrophic conditions is estimated more than 1 billion with fires alone, many more when the effects of the drought are considered.

Wildlife is facing a crisis, they need your help now more than ever before.

Please donate urgently today to help save our wildlife from the devastation of the bushfires and drought.

All donations of $2 or more are fully tax-deductible for Australian residents.

HOW YOUR GIFT WILL HELP

JoeyThe funds you give today will help Taronga address the immediate crisis, care for the rescued wildlife in Taronga Wildlife Hospitals as well as Taronga’s long-term work to save wildlife from devastation of bushfire and severe drought. Taronga’s emergency intervention includes:

  • Mobilising Taronga’s Wildlife Veterinarians and Veterinary Nurses to support rescue centres in fire affected areas
  • Caring for an unprecedented number of injured and rescued wildlife impacted by the bushfires, heat stress and drought including koalas, flying-foxes, wallabies, echidnas, critically endangered frogs and even fish.
  • Continuing care for 12 genetically valuable koalas rescued from the path of fire in the Blue Mountains by research group Science for Wildlife. Their habitat has since been destroyed by fire. Taronga will provide expert care until it is deemed safe for the koalas to return to the wild.
  • Taronga staff are hand-raising orphaned, heat-affected grey-headed flying fox from across the state.
  • Providing a temporary home to a number of platypus rescued from drying river systems. Severe drought conditions have been drying up platypus habitat, with water levels dropping further to fight bushfires.
